Sultanas have proven to be a very popular source of food for many varieties of indigenous fruit eating birds along with a number of animals including hedgehogs, badgers and squirrels. Sultanas offer a highly nutritious hi-energy food that contains approximately 3300 calories per kilogram. Sultanas can be used at any time of  the year but they are best administered form a bird table to prevent them been eaten by domestic pets.

Note for pet owners: We have been advised that dog and cat owners should take extra care not to allow their pets to eat any products containing raisins or sultanas as, even in small amounts, these dried fruits can cause serious kidney problems.
